Veterans Shareline

The Veterans Shareline project uses telephone groups to connect retired or injured armed forces personnel together to stay socially connected, independent and supported as they lead a civilian life. The Veterans project is currently running with one group after it was piloted in 2012. The project has found that working with retired service men and women, and their families has identified interests in these support services and Community Network hopes that they may continue to get funding for this proud client group despite the funding for the pilot project coming to a close in November 2012.

The Veterans are able to link up for up to an hour each week. They can use the time to talk about issues affecting them such as their recovery, their military experiences or adjusting to civilian life whether they are a year out of the Forces or 50 years. Telephone calls are free for anyone taking part in the group, and there is a trained volunteer facilitator, who is also a member of the group with Armed Forces experience.
